Privacy Policy
Introduction
Power of the Word does not show advertising. An account is never required to use the app — favourites and lists work with no account at all — but you may create one, proven by a 6-digit code sent to your email (no password), to keep them across a reinstall or a new phone. This page explains exactly what the app collects, why, and how to remove it.
What we collect
- An anonymous device id and a security token. When you first open the app, your device is assigned a random id and a token, both stored securely on your device. Neither is your name, email, or any other personal detail — they let us tell your installation apart from another, so your favourites and submissions stay yours.
- Your favourites and lists. Prayers and quotes you favourite, and any lists you build, are saved against your device. Once you sign in, they move to your account and every device signed into it sees the same list; a device that never signs in keeps its own, separate from anyone else's.
- Your account, if you create one — email only, no password. Creating an account requires proving you control the email address by entering a 6-digit code we send you. There is no password to choose, remember, or leak from a breach elsewhere. Your name is welcome, never required, and can be added or changed any time in the app. Once you're signed in, that session doesn't expire on its own — see "Signing out" below for how to end it.
- Submissions. Submitting a prayer or quote for consideration requires a signed-in account. We store the text, its author and source, the language, any tags you chose, and the account that sent it — see "Submissions" under "Your choices" below for what happens to it.
- Usage data. We keep a record of when the app was opened and which prayers, passages and quotes were opened, tied to your device and, if you sign in, your account. We use it to understand what is read and to keep the service working. It is never sold, never used for advertising and never shared except with the service providers that run our servers. We do not record what you typed into search.
- Your settings. Your settings (appearance, text size, reminders) are stored on your device and, when you sign in, synced to your account so they follow you to your other devices.
- Your location — used only on your device. If you grant location permission, it is used to calculate sunrise/sunset times and the direction of the Qiblih, entirely on your device. Your location is never sent to our servers or anywhere else.
What we do not do
- We do not show ads.
- We do not use third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not share your data with third parties, except the service providers that host our servers and deliver our email, who process it only on our behalf, under instruction, and never for their own purposes.
- We do not require an account to use the app.
- We do not collect your location off your device.
Your choices
Submissions
A submission is tied to your signed-in account — that's how we identify you, nothing else. A maintainer reviews every prayer or quote you submit, and may edit the text, author, source, language or tags before approving it. If it's approved, it's published with nothing that names you: no name, email, or account id is visible to anyone else, anywhere. Only your own signed-in devices show a small "from your submission" mark next to it. Once a submission is approved you can no longer edit it. Suggestions — a book to add, a feature request, or a correction — are never published; they stay a private conversation between you and the maintainer.
Notifications
The app can send you a push notification when something happens to a submission — it's approved, a maintainer asks you a question, or a decision is made. We only email you about one of these if the maintainer chooses to for that particular message, and every such email tells you how to stop getting them. You can turn notifications off entirely in Settings → Notifications. A daily quote reminder, or a prayer-time or calendar reminder you turn on, is scheduled on your device alone — nothing about it is ever sent to us.
Signing out
Signing in with an email code keeps you signed in on that device until you end it — a session doesn't expire on its own. In the app: Settings → "Your account" → "Sign out" ends the session on this device only; "Sign out everywhere" ends it on every device signed into your account, which then each need a fresh code to sign in again.
Delete your account
In the app: Settings → "Your account" → "Delete account" sends a fresh 6-digit code to your email. Entering it deletes your email, your name and your settings, signs every device out, and cuts the link between your account and anything you submitted or opened. Anything you already had approved and published stays published exactly as it was — it never carried your name or email to begin with.

Delete everything
Removing the app from your phone removes everything it stored on the device immediately — your device id, your settings, your downloaded languages, your local favourites and any cached data. If you also created an account, delete it first (above): removing the app on its own does not delete an account, and anything synced to that account stays until the account is deleted.
Retention
- Favourites and lists are kept for as long as your account exists (or, with no account, for as long as the app stays installed on your device).
- Account details (email, name, synced settings) are kept until you delete your account. Deletion is immediate — they are removed the moment it completes.
- Submissions and suggestions. Deleting your account removes the link between it and anything you submitted, immediately. The text of an approved prayer or quote is never deleted — like the rest of our content, it's only ever marked withdrawn, never removed, so a favourite pointing at it keeps working. Suggestions are never published and are kept only as long as your account exists.
- Usage data is kept for as long as you use the app, and is removed when you delete your account.
- Backups. When you delete your account, the copies in our backups are removed within 30 days.
